Three Of The Best Adult Oriented Cartoons
Cartoons have come a long way since the 1930s black and white version of Snow White. In fact, cartoons are becoming so popular that they are actually themed for different audiences. Animated flicks used to be made as entertainment for children. But over the years people have come to realize that animation is so much more than just eye-candy for children. With witty scripts and ever-changing animation styles, there are now some very entertaining cartoons for adults as well. Here are some of the more well-known adult-themed cartoons that are still running today.
• South Park – This series seems silly because of the style of animation and how the characters are drawn. But beyond all the silliness and the seemingly amateur illustrations and graphics, this series created by Trey Parker and Matt stone is a comedy that is about the adventures of four boys in the small town of South Park in Colorado. There was a lot of hype surrounding the show when this was first aired in 1997 because it handled a lot of current events in a very satirical and comedic manner that appealed to an older generation. Even the language is not something that children should be hearing and this is the reason why it is not a common offering on cartoon channels like Nickelodeon. Today, South Park has come to see over 12 seasons of episodes and has even won a few Emmy Awards. A movie was also made and went straight to DVD. The show is so popular that it will continue to run until 2011.
• The Simpsons – If you haven't heard of the funniest family on American television, then you truly are missing half your life. For television, this is the longest running animated series and it is still the most popular. Created by Matt Groening for Fox Television, the series depicts the life of a middle class American family in the town of Springfield. The town is just as fictional as many of the famous characters that the world has come to know as Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is now on their 20th seasons and has broadcasted 424 episodes! It is still running today and there are even popular video games and a movie that have been added to the Simpsons franchise. There is no foul language in this series of cartoons however the themes are still adult-oriented as there are many parodies that touch upon American politics, ethics, and everyday living.
• Adult Swim – This is more of a channel within a channel as Adult Swim shares some space within the Cartoon Network channel that we have come to know and love. Aired very late at night, the adult-oriented animations include some Japanese anime and other content that is rarely edited. The Adult Swim cartoons are usually geared towards people in college or over 18 years of age. Even the commercial breaks are different and sarcastic. The shows aired on Adult Swim were usually broadcasted on Sunday nights. But now, they have become so popular that they are aired from Monday through Saturday! Some silly shows include The Brak Show, Sealab, Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law, and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast.
