There are a lot of online games that are on the market today. A lot of people subscribe to online puzzle games or word games. Since there have been a lot of developments on computer hardware and software, developers have come up with MMOs which means Massively Multiplayer Online games.
These games vary from adventure types, first-person shooters and others. The most played MMOs are the role playing games where people from different countries come together and go through the games in groups which are commonly called as parties. Here are some of the most played MMOs in the world.
1. World of Warcraft (WOW) – Blizzard Entertainment has produced many strategic games with the name of Warcraft. The first release of Warcraft was during 1994 where humans and orcs were in constant battle with each other. Blizzard made two more sequels to the game and within those sequels it had many instances wherein players were just allowed to use one character.
Due to the success of the series, Blizzard Entertainment developed an online game where in players from different countries would be able to interact with one another. This led to the finished product, World of Warcraft, which was release in November of 2004. The game allows you to choose through various characters with various talents which will help you through the land of Azeroth, the world of Warcraft.
Presently, World of Warcraft is the world's most played MMO which generated a lot of revenue due to its monthly subscription fee. Even though there's a fee, a whooping 11.5 million subscribers spend their money in order to play this MMO.
2. Aion : The Tower of Eternity – This game was developed by NCsoft, one of Korea's major game developers, which allows their players to venture through their 3D fantasy environment. The game's main feature is their flying characters, which allows players to reach certain areas in the game or engage in dramatic aerial combat sequences.
The game also requires a monthly subscription and due to the big success it had in Korea, the U.S. and Europe versions are set to be released sometime within 2009. Even with the great success of World of Warcraft, many people are willing to dish-out a lot of money to get their hands on an Aion account. It is even said that Aion may be one of those MMOs that will go head-to-head with World of Warcraft in terms of online gaming ratings.
3. Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne – This is another Korean MMO which has had a very good review in terms of online gaming. This fantasy based game has a medieval style to it which offers players a unique gaming experience. Although the game doesn't have that many hardcore gamers, it was reported that there are more than 600,000 users having the gaming experience of their lives.
The MMO market is flooded with different kinds of games which await gamers of all ages. Even if there's a monthly subscription or not, it wouldn't hinder a gamer's instinct to try it out and invest time or money in it.
